Who is Tyler Bolken?
I am Tyler Jennings Bolken. I am sometimes awkward, other times overly analytical. I often laugh at my own jokes. Sometimes I am shy, other times I am social. I am a homebody, but love adventure. I am ironic. I am a storyteller. I am a dreamer. I am a believer. I am always curious. I am grateful if you have read this far.

I barely passed high school. I dropped out of college. I got a DUI when I was 22. I have been divorced twice. I have barrel rolled a car. As a young teen I avoided arrest ...

My Brother's Legacy
Cody James Bolken was a total country boy at heart, with a heart for all people and all walks of life. He left Eagle, Idaho to go play college football at Southern Utah University, before heading to the rugged North Dakota back country to cut his teeth in construction - like he knew his dad and grandfather had done decades before. I’m forever grateful that after his 5 years in North Dakota he came to Phoenix to live with me for about a year, before coming back to Idaho and living near my parents the final few years before be passed away, Oct. 18, 2019.

He loved Idaho – absolutely loved being an Idaho boy, but North Dakota was in his blood too. The family stories of North Dakota, where our extended family and parents are from, were now my brothers’ own. He took great pride in that. My brother lays to rest in two places. He is at Garden Valley Lutheran Church, just outside of Watford City, N.D., near generations of our family dating to the early 1900's. He is also at at the base of a tree on a beautiful summit in the Sawtooth Mountain Range near Deadwood Reservoir outside Garden Valley, Idaho. This was one of his favorite places to be before he passed. This tree is the standalone one in the center of the picture you see on this site and will see throughout my branding.

Cody was all about legacy, from our family’s roots in North Dakota and Norway, to establishing his own. My brother established a legacy — one of grit, grace, gratitude, and ‘shirt off his back’ friendship.
Grit, Grace, Gratitude, Gospel
The Podcast: Why? The Story. The Vision.
We are not Guaranteed tomorrow. The purpose and goal of My Dead Brother’s Podcast is to encourage and express this perspective through grit, grace, gratitude, and the gospel inside each of us for others. These stories will give us context, provide us perspective, make us laugh, make us cry, and inspire us.

The underlying tone of the Podcast is to have dialogue individually and with guests that will therapeutically be my conversations with my brother that no longer exist. These conversations exist within most of us. The darkness is not in what is gone. It is in not allowing the light to still shine through. This show will be the light.

The Life Changing Decision
I always had a desire to become a United States Marine. The Few, The Proud. My mom hid my birth certificate in 2005 when I first tried to join after high school during the early onset of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I attended college for broadcast journalism at Boise State for a few years before later going back to the recruiter and joining the Marine Corps in 2009. I unexpectedly was able to pursue two dreams in the Marine Corps, becoming a Marine, while also becoming a photojournalist.

This commitment gave me structure, leadership, purpose, and tremendous pride.

To my dismay, the adventure did not take me overseas, but gave me a brotherhood and experiences across the country I will never forget –from shooting nearly every type of military weapon, to flying in all types of planes and helicopters – all with a camera and notepad in my hand.
Personal Life
But wait, there's more...
Continued from top: ... for breaking and entering. I have lived in a single car garage, I have unexpectedly been fired. I have jumped from a 60 foot cliff with dolphins and sea turtles swimming below… Are you still reading?

I have failed. I have lived. I have fought. I have learned. I have feared. I have loved.

I am from Boise, Idaho, but was born in North Dakota. I have amazing parents and family. I currently live in Phoenix, AZ. I have 3 amazing children. I am an 8-year Marine Corps veteran. I am currently in the Air Force Reserves. I work in marketing and advertising. I am successful. I love writing, photography, and videography.

I have Grit. I have Grace. I have Gratitude. I have Gospel.
